When your phone is powered off, press and hold to power it on.

Press to turn on or off the screen. Press and hold to display

an option menu.

Touch to return to the previous screen or exit the current

application.

When you are entering text, touch to hide the onscreen keyboard.

1.2 What can I do if my phone runs out of power quickly? Turn on power saving mode. Go to Settings, touch Power saving, and select Smart or

Endurance.

Turn off the screen when you aren't using your phone.

Shorten the screen timeout period.

Lower the screen brightness.

Lower the volume.

Turn off your mobile network, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or GPS when you aren't using them.

If your phone's standby time becomes significantly shorter than usual, contact Huawei

technical support or take your phone to an authorized Huawei service center.

1.3 How do I tell when my phone is fully charged? If you are charging your phone when it is powered on, press the power button to turn on

the screen. If the battery icon on the status bar becomes , or Charged is displayed on

the lock screen, your phone is fully charged.

If you are charging your phone when it is powered off, press the power button to turn on

the screen. If the charging indicator becomes 100%, your phone is fully charged.

1.4 What can I do if my phone can't display the battery level?

Restart your phone or back up important data and restore your phone to its factory settings.

If the problem persists, replace the battery. If your battery is not user-removable, contact an

authorized Huawei service center.

1.5 What can I do if my phone cannot be charged? If the battery power is completely depleted:

If the battery is over-discharged, it may need to be charged for a while before becoming

usable again. If your phone has a removable battery, it is recommended that you use a

travel charger to charge the battery for approximately 2 hours before installing the

battery back into your phone.

If the battery power is not completely depleted:

Use the original charger provided with your phone. If you can't charge your phone when

you use the original charger, replace the USB cable or connect the charger to another

power socket.

If the problem persists, restart your phone and try again.

If your phone is overheating:

Your phone carries an over temperature protection design that disables charging if your

phone is overheating.

Do not play games, watch videos, or use other power-intensive applications while

charging. Clearing background applications from time to time may also help keep the

temperature cool.

If the problem persists, contact Huawei technical support or take your phone to an authorized

Huawei service center.

2 System and update

2.1 What can I do if my phone can't power on? If you are using the phone for the first time:

Charge your phone for about half an hour before powering it on.

When your phone powers on for the first time, the system needs to be initialized, which

may take a while. Please wait patiently.

If you restored your phone to its factory settings or updated it:

Please wait patiently because the system needs to be initialized, which may take a while.

If the screen freezes, press the power button the 10s to restart.

If your phone powers off during normal use and can't power on again:

The battery level may be too low. Charge your phone for a while and try again.

If the problem persists:

Contact Huawei technical support or take your phone to an authorized Huawei service

center.

2.2 What can I do if my phone breaks down? Press and hold the power button, and choose Restart from the displayed option menu.

If no option menu is displayed, please press the power button for 10 seconds to forced

restart.

If your phone breaks down when you are using a third-party application, the application

may not be compatible with your phone.

Restart your phone and uninstall the application.

If the problem persists, back up important data and restore your phone to its factory

settings.

If your phone can't work at all, forcibly update it.

Download the update package for your phone from http://consumer.huawei.com and

follow the update guide in the update package to update your phone.

If the problem persists, contact Huawei technical support or take your phone to an authorized

Huawei service center.

2.3 What can I do if my phone automatically powers off or restarts?

Check whether the battery level is too low. If so, charge your phone.

If not, the battery may not be properly connected to your phone.

Some third-party applications may not be compatible with your phone.

Back up important data and restore your phone to its factory settings.

If your phone can't work at all, forcibly update it.

Download the update package for your phone from http://consumer.huawei.com and

follow the update guide in the update package to update your phone.

If the problem persists, contact Huawei technical support or take your phone to an authorized

Huawei service center.

2.4 What can I do if my phone has no cellular network?

Your phone may not be detecting the SIM card. If so, or a similar sign will be

displayed on the status bar.

Make sure your SIM card is properly inserted. For details, see your phone's Quick Start

Guide.

Make sure your phone supports the SIM card mode. For details, contact your service

provider.

Your phone may have no reception. If so, or a similar sign will be displayed on the

status bar.

Wait a while or move your phone to a place with better reception.

You can also try restarting your phone.

If the problem persists, contact Huawei technical support or take your phone to an authorized

Huawei service center.

2.5 What can I do if my phone generates excessive heat?

Whether your phone generates excessive heat depends on how you use your phone.

If you think your phone is generating excessive heat while charging: It is normal for

smartphones to generate heat while charging.

Your phone provides overheating protection for its circuits, helping ensure that the heat

will not damage the battery or shorten its life span.

Charge your phone in a cool and dry place.

Do not surf the Internet, play games, watch videos, or use other power-intensive

application while your phone is charging.

If your phone generates excessive heat while you are playing games: When you play

games, your phone CPU runs at high speeds, which generates a lot of heat. This is

normal. Huawei phones have all passed safety tests in this regard. Heat generated during

normal use will not pose any safety risks.

It is recommended that you close background applications not in use while you are

playing games. Do not play games while your phone is charging.

If your phone generates excessive heat when you are using data services: How much heat

your phone generates when you are using data services depends on the signal reception.

If the reception is poor, your phone may generate excessive heat.

It is recommended that you move your phone to a place with good reception to use data

services. Do not run too many network applications simultaneously to avoid abrupt

increases of data traffic and heat generated by your phone. Do not surf the Internet in

places with poor reception.

If your phone generates excessive heat during calls: Make calls in places with good

reception. Using a headset may also be helpful.

2.6 How do I update my phone?

Back up important data, such as your contacts, messages, and call log before updating.

Online update: Before the update, make sure your phone has Internet access.

Go to the Settings screen, touch About phone > System update > Online update, and

follow the onscreen instructions.

Local update: Download the update package from http://consumer.huawei.com, insert a

microSD card into your phone, and copy the dload folder of the update package to the

microSD card's root directory.

Go to the Settings screen, touch About phone > System update > Local update, and

2.7 What can I do if my phone can't be updated? Download the update package for your phone model from http://consumer.huawei.com

and re-apply the update. For details, see the update guide for the update package.

It is recommended that you connect your phone to a charger before updating your phone.

Insufficient battery power will result in update failure.

If you are updating your phone using a microSD card, do not remove or insert the

microSD card during the update.

If the update still fails, restart your phone or back up important data and restore your phone to

its factory settings.

If the problem persists, contact Huawei technical support or take your phone to an authorized

Huawei service center.

2.8 How do I obtain the root access of my phone?

Log in to http://consumer.huawei.com to apply for an official unlock code, and follow the

onscreen instructions to unlock your phone. After obtaining the root access of your phone,

you can remove preinstalled applications, burn third-party firmware, and more.

After you obtain the root access, your phone may not be able to provide the optimal

performance, and some functions may not work properly. As third-party firmware is not

adequately tested and may not be compatible with your phone, your phone may be vulnerable

to viruses.

Unlocking your phone may bring unexpected negative effects.

Huawei authorized service centers can handle software and hardware faults resulting from

reformatting, but charges may apply.

2.9 What can I do if my phone runs slowly?

Try using Phone Manager to optimize your phone:

On the home screen, touch Optimization.

2.10 What data will be erased if I restore my phone to its factory settings?

Restoring your phone to its factory settings erases all your personal data from the internal

storage, including your email accounts, system and application settings, and installed

applications.

2.11 How do I exit safe mode?

To exit safe mode, restart your phone.

Your phone enters safe mode if you press and hold the volume down key as the phone starts

up.

3 Mobile data and Wi-Fi

3.1 What can I do if I can't access the Internet after my mobile network is turned on?

Make sure your SIM card is properly inserted. For details, see your phone's Quick Start

Guide.

Make sure your phone supports the SIM card mode. For details, contact your service

provider.

Make sure you have subscribed to a data plan for your SIM card. For details, contact

your service provider.

Make sure your SIM card has sufficient balance. Your service provider may stop

providing Internet access to SIM cards that have a negative balance.

Go to the Settings screen, and touch More... > Data usage to check whether you have

set a limit for data usage. If so, you will not be able to use data services when the limit is

met. Remove the limit or set a greater value.

3.3 How do I save data traffic? Try to use Wi-Fi networks more often.

Turn off your mobile network when you don't need to go on the Internet.

To quickly turn on or off your mobile network, open the notification panel and touch

When you surf the Internet, set your phone to block images on web pages.

On the Browser screen, touch > Settings > Bandwidth management, and clear the

Load images check box.

3.4 Can I surf the Internet during a call?

If your phone is of the CDMA standard, you can't surf the Internet during a call.

If your phone is of other standards:

You can surf the Internet when you are making a call over a 3G or 4G network.

You cannot surf the Internet when you are making a call over a 2G network.

3.5 What can I do if I can't connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot? If the Wi-Fi hotspot is encrypted, check whether the password you entered is correct.

Note that the password is case-sensitive.

Check whether the Wi-Fi hotspot name or password has changed. If so, obtain the new

information and try again.

The Wi-Fi reception may be poor.

Make sure you are within the working range of the Wi-Fi hotspot.

The number of connected devices may have reached the Wi-Fi hotspot's limit.

Try connecting to another available network.

For an open Wi-Fi hotspot, on the Wi-Fi settings screen, touch and hold the hotspot.

From the displayed option menu, choose Modify network. In the displayed dialog box,

select the Show advanced options check box. Under IP settings, touch the drop-down

list box, and choose Static. Then enter the IP address and domain name.

After your phone connects to the Wi-Fi network, a Wi-Fi icon will be displayed on the

status bar.

3.6 What can I do if my Wi-Fi connection constantly disconnects?

Make sure you are within the working range of the Wi-Fi hotspot.

Go to the Wi-Fi settings screen, touch > Advanced, and touch Keep Wi-Fi on

Restart the Wi-Fi hotspot device, such as your wireless router.

Restart Wi-Fi on your phone.

4 Applications

4.1 How do I uninstall pre-installed applications?

Go to the Settings screen, touch Manage apps, select the application you want to uninstall,

touch Uninstall, and follow the onscreen instructions to remove the application.

If an application cannot be uninstalled, the Uninstall button will not be displayed on the App

info screen.

4.2 How do I download third-party applications?

A rich selection of applications is available from a variety of sources. You can:

Download applications from Google's Play Store.

Download applications from web pages using the browser on your phone.

Download applications using a computer, and copy them to your phone.

4.3 What can I do if my phone can't install a third-party application?

Your phone supports third-party applications in APK format only. Make sure the

application you are trying to download is in this format.

If the application is not from Google's Play Store, go to the Settings screen, touch

Security, select the Unknown sources check box, and touch OK.

4.4 How do I install third-party applications to the microSD card?

By default, third-party applications are installed to your phone's internal storage. The default

installation location cannot be changed. However, you can move third-party applications to

the microSD card.

Go to the Settings screen, touch Manage apps, touch the application you want to move, and

touch Move to SD card.

Some applications may not be able to be moved to the microSD card.

After you move an application to the microSD card and you uninstall, remove, or format the

microSD card, the application will no longer be available.

4.5 How do I move applications installed in the internal storage to a microSD card?

Go to Settings, touch Manage apps, and touch an application to move it between the internal

storage and microSD card.

Some applications may not be able to be moved to the microSD card.

After you move an application to the microSD card and you uninstall, remove, or format the

microSD card, the application will no longer be available.

4.6 What can I do if third-party applications close unexpectedly?

Free up the phone memory: Close applications that you aren't using.

Go to the Settings screen, and touch Manage apps. Under Running, select the

application you want to close, touch Stop, and follow the onscreen instructions to close

the application.

It is recommended that you use Phone Manager to close multiple running applications

simultaneously.

On the Phone Manager screen, touch Phone accelerator, select the applications you

aren't using, and touch CLOSE.

5 Calls and contacts

5.1 Why does the screen turn off when I put my phone near my ear? Why is the screen still off after I move my phone away?

Your phone has a proximity sensor that's located near the earpiece.

When your ear or other object triggers the proximity sensor, the screen automatically turns off.

The screen turns back on when the object blocking the proximity sensor is moved away.

If the screen is still off after you move your phone away from your ear, make sure the upper

part of the screen is not blocked by another object.

5.2 What can I do if the call volume is too low or the call quality is poor?

Make calls in places with good reception.

When you are holding the phone, make sure the earpiece is aligned with your ear.

Do not block the microphone with your finger or other object.

Stay close to the microphone while you are speaking.

Use the Huawei original headset for calls. Other headsets may not be compatible with

your phone.

During the call, press the volume up button to increase the call volume.

Make calls in a quiet environment.

Restart your phone or back up important data and restore your phone to its factory settings.

If the problem persists, contact Huawei technical support or take your phone to an authorized

Huawei service center.

5.3 How do I delete call records?

Step 1 On the dialer, touch > Clear call log.

5.4 What can I do if my ringtone automatically reverts to the default one after I change it?

If the ringtone you set is not a native one, check whether you have deleted the ringtone

file. If so, download the file and set the ringtone again.

If the ringtone file you set is saved in the microSD card, the ringtone will restore to the

default one when you connect your phone to a computer in USB storage mode.

Disconnect your phone from the computer or move the ringtone file to your internal

storage.

To the ringtone file you set is saved in a microSD card, check whether you have

uninstalled the microSD card. If so, install the microSD card and set the ringtone again.

If the problem persists, back up important data and restore your phone to its factory settings,

and set your ringtone again.

5.5 Can I delete the native tones?

No.

5.6 How do I export contacts to another phone? Bluetooth:

Make sure both phones support Bluetooth.

Step 1 Enable Bluetooth on both phones and pair them up.

Step 2 In the contact list on your phone, touch > Share contacts.

Step 3 Select the contacts you want to export, and touch SHARE.

Step 4 From the displayed option menu, choose Bluetooth.

Step 5 In the Bluetooth device list, choose a phone to export the selected contacts.

Storage device:

Step 1 Export contacts in your phone to the internal storage as a .vcf file.

Step 2 Go to File Manager then the root directory of your internal storage, and send the .vcf file to

another phone.

Step 3 Touch the .vcf on the other phone to import the contacts.

If you have inserted a microSD card into your phone, select SD card under Settings >

Storage > Default storage location to export contacts through the microSD card as follows:

Step 1 Export contacts in your phone to the internal storage as a .vcf file.

Step 2 Uninstall the microSD card, remove it, and insert it into another phone.

Step 3 Go to File Manager then the root directory of the microSD card, and touch the exported .vcf

5.10 Why do I have less contacts saved to the SIM card after I copy them over from my phone?

When your phone copies contacts from your internal storage to a SIM card, it automatically

merges duplicate contacts with the same names and phone numbers.

6.1 What can I do if I can receive messages but can't send them?

Your phone reception may be poor. Take your phone to a place with good reception and

try again.

Your phone's battery level may be low. Charge your phone until it has a reasonable

amount of power before trying again.

You may be experiencing a network rush. Wait a while and try again.

Make sure the recipient's phone number is correct.

6.2 Why can't I send or receive multimedia messages? Multimedia messages cannot be sent or received if your mobile network is disabled.

Make sure your mobile network is enabled.

Attachments larger than 300 KB can't be sent through multimedia message. Try splitting

your attachment into multiple multimedia messages or sending it using other methods.

If the problem persists, check whether your phone has sufficient storage space available.

Go to the Settings screen and touch more...> Storage to check the available storage. If

you don't have sufficient storage space, touch each item to view its size, and clear

unwanted files to free up some space.

6.3 Is there any restriction on the multimedia message attachment size?

Attachments to a multimedia message cannot exceed 300 KB. If an image is too large, it will

be automatically compressed before being attached to the message, as a result of which, the

image resolution will decrease. Videos or audio clips larger than 300 KB can't be sent through

multimedia messages.

When writing a message, touch or to save the message as a draft, which will be

displayed the next time you open that thread.

Only messages with recipients can be saved as drafts.

6.5 Can I change the message font size?

Message font size changes along with the system font size. You cannot change the message

front size alone.

6.6 Can I restore deleted messages?

No.

6.7 Is there any restriction on the email attachment size?

The total size of attachments in a single email must not exceed 5 MB.

6.8 How do I disable the vibration on keypress for the Huawei input method?

Step 1 Go to the Settings screen, and touch Language & input.

No.

No. Your photos and videos are saved to the DCIM/Camera folder in File Manager.

7.4 What can I do if I can't use the flash?

Set the flash mode to mandatory . The flash will always be used when you are

taking a photo or shooting a video.

If the flash mode is set to auto , the camera will use the flash based to the ambient

light. If you want to use the flash in a bright environment, enable mandatory flash mode.

If the flash can't turn on in mandatory mode, check whether your phone has sufficient

battery power.

Your phone automatically disables power-intensive functions, such as flash, when the battery

level is low.

Charge your phone if necessary.

7.5 Why can't my phone open some images, audio clips, or videos?

Your phone may not support the file format.

Supported image formats include PNG, GIF, JPG, and BMP. Supported video and audio

formats include MP3, WAV, OGG, MID, AMR, MP4, and 3GP.

For files in other formats, you may need to use third-party applications.

The file may be corrupt.

Download another copy of the file and try opening it again.

7.8 What can I do if my phone's music playback volume is too low?

During music playback, press the volume up button to increase the volume.

Make sure the speaker is not blocked by the protective cover or other object.

Play a ringtone (Huawei Tune in the ringtone list recommended) at a high volume to

check whether the problem is unique to the music file.

If the problem persists, contact Huawei technical support or take your phone to an authorized

Huawei service center.

7.9 How do I view the lyrics of a song when the song is playing?

Download the lyrics file in .lrc format. Place the lyrics file and song in the same folder and

make sure their names are consistent.

When you play the song using the native music player, flick right on the playback screen to

view the lyrics.

8.1 How do I copy files from my phone to a computer? Use a USB cable to connect your phone to the computer in Device file manager (MTP)

mode. You can then transmit files between your phone and computer.

If you have inserted a micro SD card into your phone, use a USB cable to connect your

phone to the computer in USB storage device mode. The computer will identify the

micro SD card as a USB storage device, and you'll be able to transmit files between the

8.2 What can I do if my phone cannot be detected by other Bluetooth devices?

Your phone may not be set to visible.

After you enable Bluetooth, touch Bluetooth to display the Bluetooth settings screen.

Touch your phone's Bluetooth name to set it to visible.

The Bluetooth visibility may have timed out.

Re-enable the Bluetooth visibility or change the timeout period. On the Bluetooth

settings screen, touch > Visibility timeout to select a period and enable Bluetooth

visibility.

Your phone may not be within the working range of the other Bluetooth device.

Make sure your phone is within 10 meters of other Bluetooth devices.

8.3 Why can't I transfer files to another Bluetooth device that I've already paired with?

The other Bluetooth device did not respond to your file transfer request in time.

The other Bluetooth device does not support the format of the file you are trying to send.

The distance between your phone and the other Bluetooth device is over 10 meters.

8.4 What can I do if I can't turn on Huawei Beam?

Android Beam is not available when the phone is in airplane mode. Make sure airplane mode

is disabled.

If the problem persists, restart your phone and try again.

System and background applications will take up a certain portion of your total storage.

9.2 What can I do if my phone does not have sufficient storage space?

9.3 Where are my files saved by default? Files received through Bluetooth are saved to the bluetooth folder in File Manager.

Photos and videos are saved to the DCIM folder in File Manager.

Screenshots are saved to the Pictures folder in File Manager.

Recordings are saved to the Recordings folder in File Manager.

9.4 What can I do if my phone can't detect the inserted microSD card?

Step 1 Make sure the micro SD card is properly inserted. For details, see your phone's Quick Start

Guide.

Step 2 Make sure your phone is compatible with the micro SD card. Your phone supports micro SD

cards up to 32 GB.

Step 3 Make sure the micro SD card is not damaged. You can check whether a micro SD card is

damaged by connecting it to a computer through a card reader, or inserting it into another

phone.

If the problem persists, back up important data and restore your phone to its factory settings,

or contact an authorized Huawei service center.

9.5 What can I do if my data is lost after I remove the microSD card?

Lost data can't be restored. Before you remove a micro SD card, uninstall it first. Otherwise,

data in the micro SD card may be lost.

Step 1 Go to the Settings screen, touch More…, and touch Storage > Unmount SD card.

9.6 What can I do when the warning "Lack of storage" comes up while using?

You can check available space through setting→Storage settings, as the red part of picture

below. This warning may appear when the part for applications only less than 100M.

Step1 Clean up process and files which are unnecessary to release the storage by installing third-part

apps.

Step2 Uninstall some uncommon apps to release the storage.

10.1 Will I be charged for using the preinstalled Map application for navigation?

The Map application itself is free. However, Internet access is required when you browse a

map or plan a route, which may incur data usage fees.

For details about data usage fees, contact your service provider.

10.2 What can I do if my navigation application is slow or can’t work at all?

Some navigation applications may need a network connection. Connect to a Wi-Fi

network or turn on your mobile network and try again.

GPS satellite signals are weak indoors, which may cause slow positioning or positioning

failure. Take your phone to an outdoor area with good reception, contact the application

developers, or try another navigation application.

If the problem persists, contact Huawei technical support or take your phone to an authorized

Huawei service center.

10.3 What can I do if the positioning and navigation information displayed on my phone is inaccurate?

The positioning accuracy depends on the GPS satellites and map accuracy. Bring your

phone to an outdoor location with good reception. The GPS signals are weak indoors,

which may lead to inaccurate positioning results.

Turn on Wi-Fi for better positioning accuracy. Go to the Settings screen, touch All, touch

Location access, and select the Wireless networks check box.

11.1 What can I do if I forget the screen unlock password or pattern?

If you have a Google account:

If you draw incorrect patterns five consecutive times, Forgot pattern? will be displayed.

Touch it to log in to your Google account and reset the screen unlock pattern.

If you draw incorrect patterns 20 consecutive times, the Google account login screen will

be directly displayed. Log in to your Google account to reset the screen unlock pattern.

If you do not have a Google account, you may have to reformat your phone. Reformatting

your phone erases all user data from your phone.

Reformatting using a micro SD card:

Step 1 Download the software package corresponding to your phone model from

http://consumer.huawei.com.

Step 2 Copy the dload folder in the software package to the micro SD card's root directory.

Step 3 Power off your phone and insert the micro SD card into your phone. Then, simultaneously

press and hold the power, volume up, and volume down buttons to enter reformatting mode.

Your phone will be reformatted and restored to its factory settings.

Reformatting using a USB flash drive:

Step 4 Download the software package corresponding to your phone model from

http://consumer.huawei.com.

Step 5 Copy the dload folder in the software package to the USB flash drive's root directory.

Step 6 Power off your phone, and use a USB OTG cable to connect your phone to the USB flash

drive. Then, simultaneously press and hold the power, volume up, and volume down buttons

to enter reformatting mode.

To purchase a USB OTG cable, contact your device vendor.

Your phone will be reformatted and restored to its factory settings.

If your phone can't be reformatted, contact Huawei technical support or take your phone to an

authorized Huawei service center.

11.2 Why can I see the pixels on the phone screen in strong light?

This is a normal phenomenon resulting from the material of your phone screen.

11.3 What can I do if the touchscreen doesn't work? If this happens when there is water or oil on your hand or the touch screen:

Use a dry cloth to wipe your hand and the screen. Then restart the screen to let it

automatically calibrate.

If this happens when the phone is charging through an in-car charger or non-standard

charger:

In-car or non-standard chargers may cause touch screen failure. Disconnect those

chargers and use the charger that comes with your phone for charging.

If the problem persists, contact Huawei technical support or take your phone to an authorized

Huawei service center.

11.4 Why does the screen automatically turn off? If this happens during a call:

This is normal. Your phone has a proximity sensor that's located near the earpiece. When

your ear or other object triggers the proximity sensor, the screen automatically turns off.

The screen turns back on when the object blocking the proximity sensor is moved away.

Do not block the area around the earpiece with the phone cover or other objects.

If this happens when a third-party application is running:

The application may not be compatible with your phone. Uninstall the application in

question. If the problem persists, back up important data and restore your phone to its

factory settings.

If this happens when you are running multiple applications simultaneously:

Close background applications not in use. Go to the Settings screen, touch Manage

apps, touch an application then Stop to close it.

the application is tilt sensor-based.
