Ma peinture re- vendique l’erreur, la trace, la mé- moire et l’imperfection. Je peins de l’extérieur vers l’intérieur. Je commence en mettant sur le canevas des couleurs arbitraire- ment et soudain un sujet s’im- pose. Je suis sa trace, je l’isole et puis j’en cache la moitié pour me surprendre et pour voir où ce nouveau chemin va me conduire et puis l’histoire se construit, petit- à-petit, des personnages naissent et parfois meurent en chemin, un ciel se transforme en oiseau, une main en oeil et tout à coup surgit une certaine idée de la liberté.» Jean-Pascal est ce qu’on peut appeler un touche à tout. Comé- dien, auteur, metteur en scène, enseignant et peintre, il vit sa vie à travers les différentes facettes de la création. Il a fondé la com- pagnie de théâtre K-O/Chaos et il co-dirige la compagnie de théâtre Joe, Jack et John avec laquelle il crée des performances théâtrales incluant des acteurs ayant une déficience intellectuelle. De plus, il enseigne la musique, la danse et le théâtre à des adultes ayant une déficience physique et intel- lectuelle. Sa peinture est autant influencée par les grands maîtres contem- porains tels Francis Bacon et Giacometti que par l’art Folk, l’art brut (Dubuffet) et l’art urbain (Basquiat, Haring). À travers des couleurs vives, les personnages de Jean-Pascal s’offrent à nous dans leur vulnérabilité, souvent penchés le regard vers l’intérieur. Depuis 2009,on retrouve les toiles de Jean-Pascal dans des collec- tions privées en France, aux USA, en Afrique du Sud, aux Pays-Bas, aux Royaume-Uni, en Allemagne, au Groenland, au Danemark, en Australie et au Canada. ‘’I paint what I am. I paint be- cause I am.My work claims error, trace, memory and imperfection. I paint from the outside towards the inside. I select colors at ran- dom and when I apply them to the canvas, a subject matter sud- denly takes form. I follow a path that I proceed to hide and isolate in order to later reveal it again and understand where it will take me. And so the story builds itself, little by little, characters are born and sometimes die in the process, a sky transforms itself into a bird, a hand into an eye and suddenly there appears an idea akin to li- berty.’’ Jean-Pascal explores many fields. Comedian, author, stage director, teacher and painter, he lives his life through the different possibilities offered by creative processes. He founded the thea- tre company K-O/Chaos and he co-directs with the company Joe, Jack et John with which he creates theatrical performances with actors who are mentally ill. Furthermore, he teaches music, dance and theatre to patients who suffer from mental illness of physical handicaps. His paintings are influenced by contemporary masters such as Francis Bacon, Dubuffet and Giacometti as well as Folk art and urban art (Basquiat, Haring). Through the use of vivid colors, the characters that Jean Pas- cal paints come to life in all their vulnerabilities, often embodying an introspective gaze. Since 2009, the paintings of Jean Pascal Fournier are found in pri- vate collections in France, the United States, South Africa, the Netherlands, the UK, Germany, Greenland, Denmark, Australia and Canada.
