Après 6 semaines de rêve passées en France me voilà de retour au pays du long nuage blanc. Je vous recommande vivement des vacances en Bretagne. C’est une région que je ne connaissais pas du tout et où, sous le soleil, j’ai découvert des côtes sauvages, des phares, des plages de sable blanc, de nombreux sentiers menant à de coquettes maisons habillées de gris et blanc, toutes entourées de verdure. Sans oublier les crèpes ou les galettes de Pont-Aven.

Mais aussi quel plaisir de voir le succès de l’ Alliance Française de Christchurch: Nous avons pu profiter d’un 14 juillet très réussi grâce à l’équipe de Laure-Anne, Mélusine, Nans et Sandrine qui avaient préparé de bons petits plats bien français pour une cinquantaine de personnes. Une ambiance chaleureuse auprès du feu de bois avec de nombreux français et nos membres fidèles.

Les Petits Matins Croissants deviennent de plus en plus populaires et à partir du mois d’août vous aurez le plaisir de goûter aux petits pains au chocolat et aux baguettes croustillantes de la boulangerie “Le Panier” installée à Holmwood Road .

Tristement ce mois-ci nous disons au revoir à Laure-Anne Larreur qui retourne en France après une mission de 2 ans bien accomplie au sein de l’Alliance. Nous avons maintenant une Alliance vivante, professionnelle et en pleine croissance. Nous remercions vivement Laure-Anne pour tout son travail, ses bonnes idées et son dévouement. Début août nous accueillerons notre nouvelle VI, Morgane Jaffry, qui prendra la relève de Laure-Anne.

Pour les activités du mois vous aurez le choix entre une soirée cinéma, une démonstration de cuisine pour les Macarons ou une soirée culturelle au musée.

I am just back from 6 weeks holidays in France and can highly recommend Brittany as a tourist destination. It is a region I did not know at all and where I discovered, under the sunshine, a beautiful coastline, stunning lighthouses, clean sandy beaches and many tracks leading to quaint grey and white villages surrounded by a green landscape. Without forgetting the pancakes or the biscuits of Pont-Aven.

What pleasure also to come back to the land of the long white cloud and take part in a very popular Bastille night, thanks to Laure-Anne, Mélusine, Nans and Sandrine who prepared delicious French specialities for this evening by the fireside. A great success enjoyed by all members and the many French guests. Les Petits Matins Croissants are more and more popular and from August you will be able to enjoy Les petits pains au chocolat and the crusty bread of the new bakery in Holmwood Road,” Le Panier”.

Sadly this month we say good bye to Laure-Anne Larreur who has successfully accomplished her 2 years mission in Christchurch. Thanks to her and her team, we have a professional, lively Alliance in full expension. We thank her for all her work, good ideas and dedication. Early August we will welcome our new VI, Morgane Jaffry, who will take over from Laure-Anne. Finally, this month you have the choice between a movie evening, a macaron cooking class, or an evening at the museum.

It will take place at AF on Monday August 19th For Year 11, 12 & 13

From 9:00 am

- Year 9/10: Each school will have to send us by e-mail 2 names of their best students /Year.

Awards will be given to all of the students during the Award Ceremony.

- Year 11/122 students / Year / school, will do a test at the Alliance. The Alliance of Chch will

choose the local winner.

- Year 132 students / Year / school. Each participant will have to make a powerpoint

Presentation of 5 minutes related to the theme “Les avancées scientifiques et technologiques”. The winning entry from each region will be assessed by an

independent panel to find a national winner.

Entry Fee: school member of AF: $5/students, Non-member scho-ols: $10/ students.(Except year 9 and 10)

September Book:“Entretien avec le Marquis de Sade ” by Noëlle Châtelet

Résumé:De Sade on connaît surtout... le sadisme, et

la démesure d’une oeuvre considérée parmi les plus noires de la littérature.

Cet entretien fictif entre Noélle Châtelet et le marquis de Sade (questions inventées et réponses puisées dans les écrits du marquis) permet de dépasser les a priori, les procès hâtifs que Sade a lui-même entretenus par ses provocations et sa complaisance dans la cruauté, et de faire la part entre la com-plexité de sa personne et l’outrance de ses personnages.

Grâce aux questions stimulantes de Noëlle Châtelet, on découvre comment Sade s’inscrit, à sa façon, dans l’aventure intellectuelle des Lumières, et le rôle théorique qu’il joue pendant la Révolution fran-çaise et lors des premiers pas de la République. LE COIN CUISINERECETTE GAUFRE SÈCHE DU NORD

Temps de préparation : 15 min puis laisser reposer 2 h minimumTemps de cuisson : 1 h pour la totalité des gaufresDifficulté : Facile.

Matériel: Appareil à gaufres

Ingrédients : Pour environ 60/70 pièces.• 500g de farine• 250gr de beurre.• 250g de cassonade.• 2 œufs entiers.• 5cl de rhum.• 1 sachet de sucre vanillé.• facultatif une pincée de cannelle.

Préparation : Faire un puits avec farine, sucre et sucre vanillé.Ajouter les œufs entiers, le beurre en pommade (fondu) et le rhum.

Pétrir à la main10 min environ pour obtenir une pâte très ferme, lisse.Former un gros pâton allongé, laisser reposer au frais quelques heures.

On divise ce pâton froid en grosses billes allongées, et aplaties.Cuire dans le gaufrier bien chauffé au préalable.Laisser refroidir.

Ces gaufres sèches se conservent dans une boite en fer comme au bon vieux temps.
