INTRODUCTION

Ratan Naval Tata (born December 28, 1937, inMumbai) is the present Chairman of the Tata

Group, India's largest conglomerate founded byJamsetji Tata and consolidated and expanded bylater generations of his family.

CHILDHOODRatan Tata was born into the famous Tata family.

A prominent family belonging to Mumbai'swealthy Parsi community.

He was born to Soonoo and Naval Hormusji Tata.

Ratan is the great grandson of Tata groupfounder Jamsedji Tata

EARLY LIFESchooling from Campion school in Mumbai.

In 1962:- Completed B.Sc degree in architecturewith structural engineering from Cornell university .

December 1962 :- He joined the Tata Group, after

turning down a job with IBM on the advice of JRD Tata.He was first sent to Jamshedpur to work at Tata Steel.

In 1975:- Done the advanced management programfrom Harvard business school.

CAREERIn 1971, Ratan was appointed the Director-in-Charge of NELCO

In 1977, Ratan was entrusted with EmpressMills, a textile mill controlled by the Tatas.

In 1991, he took over as group chairman fromJ.R.D. Tata

On January 31, 2007, Tata Sons successfullyacquired Corus Group, an Anglo-Dutchsteel and aluminum producer.

On March 26, 2008, Tata Motors, underRatan Tata, bought Jaguar & Land Roverfrom Ford Motor Company.
