After the scorching summer heat, the city’s thirst will hopefully be quenched by the monsoon season, which seems long overdue! Speaking of monsoon, we start July with a talk on Permaculture and the screening of a French documentary “In search of meaning”. Then comes the French National Day celebration with dance, music, and feasting!

Do not miss our July Premium Event : EYM Jazz Trio & Kathak Fusion! Witness the mélange of Indian Classical & French Jazz Music, which will be personified in the Kathak Dance, by dynamic duo - Kadam & Raina Parikh. TALK on PERMACULTUREThis monsoon, let’s discover the ways of organic farming & become more empathetic to nature & the world around us. Alliance Française d’Ahmedabad in association with Heartfullness, present you a talk show on Permaculture. The show will starts with the screening of the French documentary movie “The Search for Meaning” followed by an

interactive session on ecology and sustainable development by François Bouderlique.

This will be followed by the presentation of a “micro-farm” Indo-French project in Gujarat. We will finish with a free session on heartfulness relaxation and meditation by Ekta Bouderlique.

About Francois: The first IT’S POSSIBLE pilot project has been initiated in 2014 in India by François Bouderlique, a former financial ex-pert. In 2014, he left his job in one of the top five mega-bank in Paris to engage in the cre-ation of experimental project such as the lem-on farm project supported by the IT’S POSSIBLE ECOLOGY TRUST and various NGOs here.

French Expressions for RAINFALL

Il pleut des cordesLiterally “It’s raining ropes,” this way of describing a heavy downpour in French evokes the image of rain pouring from rooftops when it liter-ally forms long “ropes” of raindrops stretching to the ground. The most common English equivalent is probably “It’s raining cats and dogs.”

Trempé comme une soupeThe literal meaning of this expression is “soaked like a soup,” which is used to describe someone who was caught in a downpour and “soaked to the skin” or “soaked to the bone” (which also exists in French: Être trempée jusqu’aux os).

Interesting bit of trivia: This is an old French saying that dates back to when the word soupe was used to describe a piece of bread dipped in a broth (which itself eventually became known as soupe). Knowing this, the expression makes more sense!

Il pleut comme vache qui pisseThe literal meaning of this expression is “It is raining like a cow pissing,” which is the French equivalent of It is raining Cats & Dogs!

Une pluie battanteThis one refers to “beating” rain that’s particularly violent and abundant.
