IntroductionFamous Quotation: "I had crossed the line I was free but there was no one to

welcome me to the land of freedom. I was a stranger in a strange land."

Best known for: She freed a lot

of slaves by going back and

    forth on the UndergroundRailroad.

    3 Key Qualities:1. Demonstrated bravery2. Took action 3. Persevered

What I find interesting: She was

    a slave.

I chose this person because shewas a slave, and I thought it

    would be interesting to learn

    about slavery.

    Overcame a Hardship/Challenge

    Harriet was a slave. She

    was often beaten and

    slaves weren't paid. She

was owned by someoneand she didn't have any

rights.I think it was hard for

    her to be beaten for

    things that she really

    couldn't help doing

    because she was hungry

    and thirsty.

    Showed Compassion and Empathy

    One day Harriet came between

the master and a slave when the

master threw a metal weight at

the slave. It hit Harriet instead.I think she showed compassion

    because she didn't want the

slave to get hit and would rather

be hit herself. She was brave andcould have been killed.

    Took Action

    Harriet Tubman escaped with

    three of her brothers. They

decided to turn back. Two nights

later she went alone. "I had a

right to liberty or death," she

said after her escape.I think that she wants to be free

and have rights so even thoughher brothers decided to escape

    and she escaped.

    Persevered

    From 1850 to 1861 Harriet

    Tubman helped hundreds of

    African Americans escape

slavery by going back on the

    plantations 15 times to save

    others slaves. She lead the

Underground Railroad.I think that she risked her lifeand she could have been

    caught.

Impact: How Things are Different Today

    Harriet Tubman was a

    conductor on the

    Underground Railroad,

    and she rescued about

    three hundred runaway

slaves. I think she made an

    impact because shehelped fight against

    slavery by freeing slaves.

    Demonstrated Bravery

    Harriet Tubman was a spy

during the Civil War in 1863. I think she was so so brave

to be a spy because she

    could have gotten caught

    and killed.

    Harriet Tubman

    Persevered when Harriet

Tubman made at least 15 trips

    to free slaves.

    Took action by Harriet Tubman

escaped from slavery all by her

    self.

Showed compassion when shehelped protect another slave by

stepping in front of him when the

master threw a metal weight at

him. It hit Harriet instead of the

slave. Made a difference when she

    help free slaves on the

    Underground Railroad.

Im a Change Maker when I stand

    up for other people.

Im similar to my Change Makerbecause I want the world to be

    free.

    My Change Maker is

    connected to Ruby Bridges

    because they both were dealing

with white people who didn't like

them because of the color of

    their skin.
