Corten steel is an aesthetical paradox, but it is precisely this paradox that makes it so interesting. The intense and iridescent chromatic tonality of its surface is warm and natural on one hand,

but severe and purist on the other hand. The same unusual elegance, emphasized by the rust, makes corten steel naturally resistant to aging, atmospheric attacks and

vandalistic acts, and therefore it does not require any special maintenance. Today, urban areas are becoming ever more communicative launching a message, and

for this reason Metalco has decided to exploit the multiple advantages oered by this singular material, dedicating a new productive expression entirely to

the realization of a whole, rened and innovative range of Corten steel.

L‘acier corten est un paradoxe esthétique, mais c’est justement ce paradoxe qui le rend particulièrement intéressant. La tonalité chromatique intense et changeante de sa couche supercielle, lui donne un côté chaud et naturel et par ailleurs un côté sobre minimaliste. Cette insolite élégance née de la corrosion supercielle, on dit du corten qu’il s’agit d’un acier auto patinable, confère à ce matériau une résistance exceptionnelle au vieillissement, aux agents atmosphériques et au vandalisme. Il ne nécessite en conséquence aucune opération de maintenance. Chaque jour un peu plus les espaces urbains deviennent plus communicants et porteurs de messages, les objets disposés sur le domaine publics sont porteurs de codes déclencheurs d’attitudes voire de réexes, qui vont de la déance à l’accaparement. C’est pour cela que nous avons souhaité intégrer ce matériau à nos fabrications, an de faire proter les villes des messages de chaleur, de résistance, de sobriété et de pérennité que porte ce matériau si particulier.

technologie laser, et cintrée , La tôle Corten est sablée et traitée

selon le cycle d’oxydation mis au point par METALCO. L’assise et

le dossier sont assemblés avec des vis et des distanceurs cylindri-

ques en acier inox. Le banc est doté de deux accoudoirs en fonte

d’aluminium thermolaquée à la poudre polyester et xés par des

La jardinière PITOCCA, de forme classique tronconique est proposée en deux tailles. Elle est réalisée entièrement en tôle d‘acier corten ép.25/10 mm avec bord supèrieur ép.80 mm. Elle est sablée et traitée par un cy-cle spécifique d’oxydation mis au point par Metalco. Elle est dotée d’un socle circulaire en acier inox satiné ép.6 mm avec verins de réglage du niveau pour pose sur sols en pente. Chaque jardinière est équipée de deux plaques d’acier inox E. 1 mm qui permettent la pose de logos ou pictogrammes. Les dimensions sont ø1000 mm; Ht=635 mm ou ø910 mm; Ht=340 mm.

The PITOCCA planter, in a classical conical-trunk form comes in two dif-ferent heights, and is totally made out of corten steel plate th.25/10 mm with a 80 mm upper border, sandblasted and treated with a special oxi-dation cycle developed by Metalco. It has a circular bottom base support made out of satin finished stainless steel th.6 mm with screws provided for regulating the inclination. The flower-boxes are provided with two plates in stainless steel sheets th. 1 mm that can be used as a support for name-plates or labels. The measurements are ø1000 mm with H.=635 mm, or ø910 mm with H.=340 mm.

Les fontaines de la série FUENTE sont constituées d’une structure

d‘acier corten, sablé et traité par un cycle spécifique d’oxydation

et de passivation mis au point par Metalco, disponibles au choix,

en section rectangulaire ou élliptique 100x200 mm, Ht=990 mm

avec socle rectangulaire 290x140x6 mm et capot supérieur en tôle

soudée. Le robinet en laiton nickelé est du type poussoir avec retour

automatique avec raccord de 1/2”.

La fontaine se fixe par quatre vis inox sur le socle de la vasque en tôle

zinguée à chaud et thermolaquée de dimensions 296x890 mm, ép. 102

mm, équipé d’un tube trop plein ø40 mm. Les raccords de conduction et

d’évacuation ne sont pas fournis. Poids 22, 26 ou 28 Kg.

The fountains of the FUENTE series are made out of a structure of stainless steel corten tube, sandblasted and treated with a special oxida-

tion cycle developed by Metalco, available in either rectangular or elliptical sections 100x200 mm, height 990mm with a rectangular base

plate 290x140x6 mm and upper cap in sheet metal. The nickel

coated brass tap is of the push button type and has a spring return

that is normally closed. It is screwed to a 1/2” coupling and connected

to a stainless steel tube with a threaded terminal for connecting it to

the water system. The structure is fixed by four screws to the base of

the tank, which is made out of hot galvanized stainless steel sheets,

and varnished with P.P. powders. Measurements 296x890 mm and

depth 102 mm.

It has an outlet and overfill tube of ø40 mm. On the back of the

tank thereis a slit for connecting the supply tube. The trap door,

which can be removed for cleaning the tank, measures 740x290

mm and th.5 mm, and is made out of satin finished stainless steel.

Les grilles d’arbre de cette série sont réalisées en tôle d’acier corten ép. 4 ou 6 mm découpées au laser afin d’obtenir quatre types de

décors: avec lettres majuscules (LITTERA); avec décor feuilles (FLORA); avec décors géométriques quadrangulaires (STELO et GEMMA).

Chaque grille est composée de deux moitiés renforcées par un cadre périmétrique soudé en plat d’acier corten ép.4 mm, avec système de

raccordement. Les grilles sont livrées en option avec un cadre en “L” d’acier zingué 40x30x4 mm avec pattes de scellement. Les grilles sont

sablées puis traitées selon un cycle spécifique d’oxydation mis au point par Metalco. Elles sont disponibles dans les tailles 735x735 mm (trou

The treeguards grills of this series are made up of corten steel sheets th. 4 or 6 mm processed by laser, in order to obtain four kinds of

decoration: capital letters (LITTERA), leaf elements (FLORA), and quadrangular geometrical elements (STELO and GEMMA). The grills are

composed of two halves, reinforced by a perimeter in flat corten steel 4 mm, and are predisposed for adjacent fixtures with screws. They

also have a special counter frame in “L” shaped profiles of galvanized steel 40x30x4 mm with frames for cementing them. The grills are

sandblasted and treated with a special oxidation cycle developed by Metalco, and they come in the following measurements 735x735 mm

(with opening ø=320 mm); 990x990 mm (with opening ø=500 mm); 1190x1190 mm (with opening ø=500 or 800 mm); 1440x1440 mm

Le bicyparc RESET est réalisé par enroulement régulier en spirale

d’un tube acier Ø 40 x 2mm, les deux extrémités verticales sont

équipées de socles de scellement en fonte d’aluminium. L’emsemble

est peint à la poudre polyester teinte corten selon le cycle de

traitement METALCO.

The RESET bike rack is constructed from a spiral structure, made from

Ø 40x2mm, galvanised steel tube, which rests on the ground with

two cast aluminium feet, all polyester powder coated, corten colour.

La barrière ICS est réalisée par découpe au laser de tôle en acier

Corten ép. 8 mm sur une largeur de 80 mm, elle est cintrée et emboutie

avec soudure au centre. Une lisse supérieure en acier inox satiné ép.8

mm s’emboite dans les découpes des pièces en Corten avec des soudures

invisibles. La barrière se scelle directement dans le support grâce à des

prolongations de 200 mm ; les modules peuvent également être juxtaposés

et vissés entre eux pour compositions modulaires en continu. Tous les com-

posants en acier Corten sont sablés et traités selon le cycle d’oxydation

mis au point par METALCO. Dimensions 960 mm de largeur et 1000 mm

The ICS barrier is made of an 8mm thick, 80mm wide, laser cut corten

steel sheet, suitably shaped with presswork and welded in the centre,

the upper part matches an inlay in 8mm thick brushed stainless steel with

concealed welding. The barrier is with a 200mm extension for installing

into concrete foundations and an eyelet to attach additional modules

with screws to make a continuous stretch. All corten components are

sandblasted and treated with Metalco’s particular oxidisation process.

The rectangular window in the centre of the dissuader body, with sheets in opal compact polycarbonate, isilluminated by an incandescent 80 W light bulb made especially to measure. inox satiné ép.6 mm avec platine permettant la fixation au sup-

port par chevilles à expansion. La surface utile d’affichage est

de 700x1000 mm, elle sera utilisée en sérigraphiant directement

le panneau de polycarbonate compact ép.7 mm livré en série, ou

en appliquant un film adhésif sérigraphié résistant aux UV, sur sa

face interne. Le totem est équipé d’une barre frontale gouttière

en tube carré d’inox satiné. Visserie en inox. Dimensions 800x100

ground with a special base block in satin finished stainless steel th.6

mm provided with a plate predisposed for mounting the relevant

plugs (not included). The expositive surface, measuring 700x1000

mm, is obtained by directly printing onto the panel, made out of

compact polycarbonate th.7 mm, or by applying a UV resistant

adhesive support onto the inner side of the panel. The totem is com-

plete with front panel/drip channel in square satin finished stainless

steel tube. All of the screws are in stainless steel. Measurements

800x100 mm, Height 2050 mm.

L‘abribus TRAMWAY est composé d’un socle avec structure en tube

rectangulaire d’acier 140x70x3 mm et 50x40x2 mm, revêtu d’une

tôle en aciercorten ép.5 mm, et d’un auvent monobloc avec une forme

courbe originale, composé d’une armature interne en tube d’acier carré

50x50x2mm avec renforts en profilés d’acier ép.12 mm, l’ensemble

carrossé apr une tôle d’acier corten ép.25/10 mm en façade et 6 mm

sur les cotés. Compte tenu de sa configuration monolytique, l’abribus

sera posé sur une platine spécifique en acier ép.7 mm, équipée de

tire fonds M12 à sceller pendant la phase de réalisation du massif

béton, laquelle est équipée d’un système de réglage de niveau. En

option l’abribus peut être livré avec un banc dont l’assise est réalisée

en bois exotique, de dimensions 1650x400x60 mm, avec structure en

tôle d’acier corten ép.25/10. A l’intérieur du banc prennent place les

éventuels composants électriques nécessaires à l’éclairage optionnel

de l’abribus, la rampe d’éclairage est située soit dans le socle (éclairage

par le bas), soit en toiture avec dans ce cas pose d’un profilé en

aluminium extrudé thermolaqué. En option l’abribus peut également

être équipé de parois latérales avec socle similaire à celui de l’abribus

et plaques de verre sécurit 10+10 mm de largeur 1453 mm ou 593

mm. Toutes les parties en acier corten sont sablées et traitées par un

cycle spécifique d’oxydation accéléré et passivation mis au point par

Metalco. Dimensions maximum: 2 modules 1753x2962 mm, Ht=2555

mm; 3 modules 1753x4446 mm Ht=2555 mm.

The TRAMWAY bus shelter is made up of a foundation with a structure in rectangular steel tube 140x70x3 mm and 50x40x2 mm covered by

corten steel sheets th.5 mm, and by a main body that has an original curved shape, with an internal structure in square tubular steel 50x50x2

mm with sheet metal reinforcements th.12 mm, also covered in corten steel sheets th.25/10 mm (on thefronts) and 6 mm (on the sides). For its

special monolithic shape, the bus shelter is placed and fixed on special steel plates th.7 mm with M12 set screws, to be cemented in the construction

phase of the foundation, using suitable lifting equipment. On request, the bus shelter can be equipped with a bench with seating in exotic wood

1650x400x60 mm, structure in corten steel sheet th.25/10 mm, as well as sign post elements in aluminium. The electrical components are placed

inside the bench for lighting up the bus shelter, available for the back of the shelter, with light bulbs lodged inside the foundation, or for the

upper back, with the lights lodged inside a special profile of aluminium extrusion varnished with P.P. powders. On request the bus shelter can

be equipped with a side wall with a foundation similar to the one used for the main structure and plates made out of coupled tempered glass

10+10 mm in length 1453 mm or 953 mm. All of the parts in corten steel are sandblasted and treated with a special oxidation cycle developed

by Metalco. Maximum measurements: 1753x2962 mm (2 modules) or 1753x4446 mm (3 modules), height 2555 mm.

L’acier corten est un acier dit “auto-patinable”, il tire son nom du principe de protection contre la corrosion que procure la formation d’une fine couche d’oxyde imperméable couleur brun-rouille qui se forme lorsque le métal est exposé à nu aux intempéries. Ce phénomène est obtenu grâce à l’addition à l’acier d’un très faible pourcentage de cuivre, de nickel et de chrome. La présence du cuivre améliore également les propriétés mécaniques de l’acier en élevant sa limite d’élasticité. La teinte des objets en corten évolue donc avec le temps en fonction des conditions climatiques du lieu d’exposition, jusqu’à ce que sa surface devienne “passive” c’est à dire qu’elle n’évolue plus. Cet état “stable ” est atteint entre 12 et 18 mois. Metalco conseille, dans le cas ou le mobilier est posé sur des sols sensibles aux taches tels que le marbre blanc, ou dans le cas de mobilier d’assise, le choix de l’option “traitement anti délavement” que nous avons mis au point.

With time, corten steel can change in tonality and shades, varying according to the position in which the object is installed and to the cycles of sun/rain that it is subjected to. Thenatural oxidization of corten steel is considered “stable” when it takes on its definitive dark brown colour, typical of oxidized corten, and it no longer releases rust powder. The averageperiod of this oxidization phase is approximately 12/18 months. When the furniture is placed on particularly sensitive floors (white marble,etc.), Metalco advises an “anti-washout” treatment that has been especially developed by the company. Note: When natural products in oxidized corten steel are chosen, i.e. NOT treated with the “anti-washout” treatment, Metalco will not guarantee their products against the releasingof rust in the areas underneath the furniture during the necessary stabilization period of oxidization (12/18 months).
