Editorial note & President’s message

Lion Dr. Pavan Baldava

Dear Reader,

It gives me immense pleasure to present the first volume of Club’s Bulletin for the year 201617. I look

forward to this year, the Centennial year of the Lions Clubs International, and the 49th year of our

Club’s existence, as a remarkable one. I hope that Communique adds a feather to our cap of activities

& administration by conveying the right information and paving way for meaningful interaction and

generation of ideas.

I am fortunate to be at the helm of this prestigious organization for this year. This term would lead

our march into the Golden Jubilee of club’s existence, and also stand as a testimony to our

participation in the Lions Clubs International’s centennial celebrations and service challenge.

I consider myself blessed to have been introduced to Lionism. What began as a simple volunteering

for dental health checkup & awareness programmes has become a significant milestone in my

journey to self. It is here where my heart is.

You will never be able to escape from your heart. So it is better to listen to what it has to say.

– The Alchemist

We all belong to interesting and challenging times. The challenge of responding to needs of the

vulnerable sections keeps growing by the day. From medical aid & socioeconomic factors to

environmental onslaught, we face a plethora of interlinked issues that need to be addressed. The

resources at our disposal are always meager as compared to the demand. It is interesting, how an

organization like Lions Club ensures better utilization of existing resources and works constantly for

generation of new resources.

Times have changed. So has the concept of giving! The generation before us would first set aside a

portion of their cooked food to be given to the alms seeker, pet or the stray animal. Today, we keep

aside yesterday’s leftovers to be given. The question is when we have a platform like Lions clubs, do

we focus on distribution of available freebies / refuse or work towards generating items or services

based on the actual needs of the needy.

Our motto for this year is “Learn to give”. It incorporates two things. The idea of Lions Clubs as a

platform where we encourage giving, and two, by being and serving as Lion leader or member, we

learn how to best utilize the existing resources, and efficiently give to the actual need in terms of

time, place and person.

I thank every member of the club for giving me this opportunity to serve as the “President”, and I

hope to stand up to the expectations.

Message from Past District Governor Lion O.P. Goenka

Dear Lion Dr. Pavan Baldava,

Lion Neelesh Vithlani started journey as a President twelve months back, has

come to an end. These twelve months were spent very usefully for community

betterment services. I would say, he has triggered a social revolution by several hectic activities. He

has carved out a niche for himself through selfless service, devotion to the cause and inimitable style

of functioning. My complements to him and his team.

Now, it is your turn to prove your mettle. I know your capability and you will prove.

In the assessment of the work of Lions, we find that all that was conceived, created and carried out, in

the process of lionistic activities was due to three guiding beacons the lions followed and they are

vision – faith – courage.

More specifically, Vision to see – faith to believe – courage to act. I need not amplify and interpret

the same.

But these guiding principles though substantial in values, were only abstract factors. What made

possible to turn abstract into concrete with effective results, were imagination – inspiration –

ingenuity. What I have narrated above, the three guiding principles are the three actuating attributes,

proved to be a combination for action namely, vision with imagination – faith with inspiration –

courage with ingenuity. I am sure, with these attributes, I look forward to a still more successful year

ending with 50 years of the existence of our club.

My greetings and best wishes to you and your team.

A little bit more about Lions Club of Hyderabad East

Secretary – Lion Dhiiraj Boob

One of the oldest service organizations in the city, we have been at the forefront

of charitable service. Since 1968, the club has been nurtured by service minded

generous men and women, who have contributed their resources and built

bridges with other donors and similar groups in the society. The strong foundation

of functioning and delivery has enabled the club to stand tall for nearly fifty years

now. Given below is a gist of our activities. For volunteering, donations& membership, do contact us
