Students learn through developmental progressions beginning with basic skills on all Olympic events (vault, uneven bars, balance beam, floor exer-cise). Forward and backward rolls, handstands, cartwheels, front and back walkovers , hip circles, pullovers, and basic dance skills (jumps and leaps) will be emphasized in order to create a solid basis for learning more advanced skills. Each apparatus will incorporate basic gymnastics skills to develop coordination, strength, flexibility, agility, confidence, and self-esteem.

At the same time students will explore movement, improvisation, storytelling, dancing, and singing with Emerald City’s professional teaching artists. Madame Julie’s Music class is all about rythms, melodies and fun props. While this program is offered to Jr-K students both on Thursday and Friday, registration is limited to only one of these two classes since the Friday class is a repeat of the Thursday program. A fun and exciting curriculum full of adventure and exploration that every child can be a part of. Promoting self-confidence, teamwork, and physical activity through the joy of Circus! Drawing on his Bachelor’s Degree in the Classics from the University of Wisconsin - Madison, his extensive experience teach-ing private music lessons, and his years of writing and performing original rock and acoustic music, Joe will help your child learn how to play and enjoy guitar.

Repertoire ranges from French traditional songs to US folk songs or World Music. The class is free, but a $30 registration fee applies to cover the cost of supplies, recitals, etc. Joining the choir is a commitment. Students must attend every class, additional rehearsal prior to a concert, and the various performances organized throughout the semester. Participation to Friday class is mandatory for all registered; students interested can also expand this experience by attending the Saturday music ensemble, a time and place to work on more advanced pieces in a smaller group.
