BI Validator: Creating a new Tableau Connection

Goal

• As an end user, you would like to create a connection to your Tableau server in BI Validator

Before you begin:

•Have the following details of Tableau Server handy!• Login URL

• Example: http://<localhost>:<8000>/#/signin• URL for Services

• Example: http://<localhost>:<8000>/api/2.2/auth/signin• Administrator’s username and password

• Example: https://onlinehelp.tableau.com/current/online/en-us/tabcmd_install.htm

Download “TabCmd Installer”Go to https://onlinehelp.tableau.com/current/online/en-us/tabcmd_install.htm and download the tabcmd file

BI Validator uses TabCmd for execution of tableau reports

Install “TabCmd Installer”

Default installation of TabCmd will create a folder structure as below

Copy the location

Configure TabCmd location in BI Validator

Navigate to Admin->Settings menu from the top right corner of the BI Validator Window and paste it

Paste the path here

Right click on BI Connections and select “Add BI Connection”

Choose Tableau from the dropdown. Enter a connection name.

Enter the Signin URL

Enter the Restful URL

Test and Save. You should see a “Connection Successful” mesasge

• That’s it. You are ready to automate your tests!
