A Publication of Hobe Sound Christian Academy F rom the principal... anks to a patent granted 81 years today, you likely did not brush your teeth this morning with hog’s hair. In 1937, Wallace Carothers, an employee at DuPont, received a patent for a synthetic polymer called nylon. One year later, the first commercial use of nylon was in the form of nylon-bristled toothbrushes. Until that point, the bristles of toothbrushes were made with animal hair – oſten hog’s hair. A few years later, the use of nylon greatly expanded due to extensive use during World War II in items like parachutes, parachute cords, tires, tents, and ponchos. So if you fall into the category of people that prefer not to clean their teeth with animal hair (and I suspect most of us do not), today is a day to celebrate. Y earbooks ads are available for those parents who wish to recognize their student. e cost for 1/8 page ad is $25, 1/4 page ad is $50, 1/2 page ad is $80 and a full page is $130. Please contact cheryljones@ hsbc.edu for further information. e deadline for ads is February 19. W e are still collecting Box Tops. Please turn in any Box Tops by February 19 so we can mail them before the deadline. We would like to have as many BoxTops as possible to submit for our school. is is a great way to support our school since our teachers receive the money to use in their classrooms. O n February 26, Lifetouch Pictures will be coming to take our spring photos. ese will be the photos that are sent home for you to view before purchasing. Students are not required to wear their uniforms on this day; however, the clothes are to meet school dress guidelines. Please remember that no denim is permitted. Any student dressed inappropriately will be asked to call home for a change of clothes. T he Safety Patrol will sponsor a denim day on February 28. You can pay $3.00 and wear a spirit shirt, tennis shoes, girls can wear a long denim skirt, & boys can wear jeans instead of their uniform. M arch 5 is our PTF night. Join us in the Music Auditorium at 7 pm to vote for our new PTF officers. Also, the high school students who will be entering the FACCS Competition will be featured at this event as well. T he high school department will be going to Jacksonville, Florida for the FACCS Competition on March 9. F ield Day is coming soon! On March 15-16, the High School, Jr. High, and Elementary students will be participating in athletic events. All parents are welcome to watch their child participate. Jr. High and High School will be dismissed aſter the field day awards ceremony on March 15, but the elementary students will be dismissed at their regular time. Elementary students will be dismissed around 1:00 on March 16 following the awards ceremony, but High School and Jr. High will be dismissed at their normal time. ere will also be no aſtercare on March 16.
