Computer-based tests are suitable for candidates who are
more comfortable with a keyboard and mouse than with
paper and pencil. They also offer more exam dates throughout
the year and permit shorter registration times allowingcandidates to register as little as a week before taking their test.
Some of our exam papers are also available in versions
featuring content particularly targeted at the interests and
experience of school-aged learners.
The table below gives you useful information about the formats
in which each exam is available. A separate table for Teaching
Awards can be found on page 36.

Cambridge ESOL and the CEFRThe Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
(CEFR) is a series of descriptions of abilities which can be
applied to any language and can be used to set clear targets for
achievement in language learning. It has now become accepted
all over the world as a way of benchmarking language ability.
Cambridge English exams are developed in accordance with
the principles and approaches of the CEFR.
To learn more go to

ResultsCambridge ESOL is committed to providing candidates with
accurate, informative results as quickly as possible after they
take their exam or test. In many cases including all computer-
based exams results are issued within two weeks of the test
date, and we are continually working to provide results as
quickly as possible for all exams, without compromising the
extensive assessment and quality control processes that ensure
fairness and reliability. Candidates' results give a breakdown of
their performance in each of the four skills listening, speaking,
reading and writing.

Quality and security
To ensure that our exams are a fair and accurate representation
of candidates abilities, we are committed to the highest
standards of quality, security and integrity.
All Cambridge ESOL centres follow a detailed code of practice
which sets out the highest standards of security throughoutthe testing process, from registration to results. Security is now
being enhanced even further as we introduce a system of test-
day photos.
All of Cambridge ESOLs systems and processes are certified
as meeting the internationally recognised ISO: 9001 2008
standard for quality management.
Test process
At Cambridge ESOL we constantly review the exams weprovide to ensure they are accurate, relevant and fair. Creating
a new exam which is a thorough and meaningful test of a new
area of assessment is a complicated process requiring careful
research and testing. Some of the worlds leading experts in
language assessment contribute to the work of Cambridge
ESOL and the quality of our exams is built on their combined
expertise, experience and understanding of assessment
and learning.

Verification
Secure, user-friendly and effective
Cambridge ESOLs user-friendly online Results Verification Service
gives you free access to candidates' Cambridge ESOL examination
results anytime, anywhere.
Anyone can use this free service once they have been given
permission to verify a result by the certificate holder.
For further information visithttp://verification.CambridgeESOLonline.org
Extended certification
Extended certification is a way of making candidates
certificates more meaningful and informative, by reflecting
more precisely the correspondence between their Cambridge
ESOL grade and the level of skills they have demonstrated in
relation to the CEFR levels.
Each exam measures a range of abilities, and candidates who
score suffi ciently high marks to demonstrate that they fall into
the CEFR band above the one targeted by the test (typically
by getting grade A) can have this reflected on their certificate.
Similarly, candidates who just fail to achieve a pass mark, but
have demonstrated suffi cient skills, can receive a certificate
showing that they have achieved the CEFR level below the one
targeted by the exam.
Candidates who achieve grade A in Cambridge English: Advanced
(which assesses Level C1) receive a certificate showing that
they have achieved Level C2. Cambridge English: Keycandidates
who achieve a narrow fail will receive Level A1 certificates, andCambridge English: Preliminaryand Business English Certificate:
Preliminary candidates who achieve a narrow fail receive Level
A2 certificates.
The table below demonstrates this concept.

Teaching Awards andtests for teachers
The practical element of the Delta
course meant that I could feel thebenefits I was gaining from it when
working with my learners, who
seemed to appreciate their central
role in my own learning.
My colleagues both at my school and
on the course were also an important
part of the learning process. I now
look forward to a more relaxing year,
putting into practice more of what
I learned. First and foremost that
means reflecting on my teaching
at every stage in a way I was not
capable of before.
