AGRIMEC was foundedin 1979. At onceit made interestingexperiences in thedesign and installationof greenhousesdestined to flower and vegetable-growing,as in Italy like abroad,under the guide of Spelgatti familyadministration.The property (8.000 m2) is located in Casazza,
a small village at 70 kmfrom Milan, just in themiddle of a beautifulvalley, where for a longtime an industrial zoneis growing over andover. The buildingconsists in severalsectors, destinedto management,production, warehouseand exposition.

AGRIMEC employsqualified workers for every kind of installation. The installation is oneof primary importanceaspects in thepurchase of onegreenhouse. Only a special teamcan install a suchstructure help by experience, specific tools and organization.
If requested by thebuyer AGRIMEC canassume the directionof the work andprovide greenhousesand structures in turnkey way.
“TURNKEY” INSTALLATIONS
3. Turnkey installations
In the last few yearsdesign activity hasbeen dedicated to theenergy matter, veryimporting question inflower-growing markettoo.AGRIMEC offers itsexperience in theinstallation ofphotovoltaic systemsintegrated with itsgreenhouses.
Since November 2006a photovoltaic solarsystem of 19,2 powerkW is operating at itsheadquarter.It’s a pilot projectwhich is shown to thecustomers as a modelto be followed, aninvitation to use newenergy forms for thegreenhousemanagement.

STRENGTH POINTS
easy assembling
resistance and respect of technical standards
flexibility/ modularity
7. Technical and structural characteristics
AGRIMECgreenhouses aredesigned and builtusing the semicircle arcas shape of the vault.For several yearsAGRIMEC tested and kept till now this configurationon the base of thefollowing benefits:
- wind effect: lift(vertical lifting) andless transversal push
- less covering surface,less heat dispersion
- more useful height (H) at samemaximum height
- best film inflating - less film deterioration- good unloading of
snow at same time
Agrimec advises tobuild the greenhouse"when admitted" usinga square layout, the
layout that - at volumeequality - reduces tothe minimum thedispersant surfaces.
Studies on greenhouses (T. Foulard and H. Fatnassi,
INRA-Unité URIH (France),
“New models help optimise
greenhouse design”, in
FlowerTECH 2006, vol. 9/n.6)
have verified theimportance of theheight of a greenhouseand, also in this case,AGRIMEC modelssatisfy the required
parameters at best.These studies haveindeed shown that theinternal air temperaturedecreases when theheight increases up to4 meters and that aftersuch quote theimprovements becomenot very significant asthe following diagramshows.

DESIGN CRITERIA
Recommended optimum height (H)between 3 and 4 m.An high greenhouse is able to create a fresher and more accessible site.It requires just a little higher heating cost.ATTENTION: too much height, useless investmentAvailable height: from 2,35 up 4 m
Maximum width: up to 10,5 m

Actions transmitted to the ground requireunderground foundations built with cement plinths. The anchorage system is however practical and allows the totaldisassembling thanks to these alternatives ways:1) separation between pipe drowned in the plinth and pillar or 2) use of a metal platefixed by screw anchors on the concrete base.
Executed the excavation,
do a first concreteunderground layer
just to have a datum plane.
At this point insert the anchoragepipe in the excavation oriented
in the correct way. This pipe has an hole at its base which can be
used to insert an iron rod, so to be strongly linked to the plinth.
Complete filling the excavation with the cement. At finished work,
the male end of the pipe - on whichthe greenhouse pillar will be bolted –
must emerge beyond the countryside plan.

CONFORMITY
- European norm EN 13031-1 dated 01-11-2004“Greenhouses: Design and construction”
One of the most important news of these rules is the greenhouse classification based on the following table:
Category Useful project life15 years 10 years 5 years
Class AGreenhouses covered by rigid materials which don’t bear A15 A10 -big deformations under load
Class BGreenhouses covered by materials - as plastic films - B15 B10 B5which can bear big deformations under load
The useful project life is the period during whichbuildings, subject to the ordinary maintenance,must be used for the purpose they are destined to.
Technical and structural characteristics 10.
What authorizations to build?Authorisation is one of the core issues on that depends the decision of customer to go on in investing money in greenhouse installation.
For this reason AGRIMEC recommends its own customers to inform themselves on which local government organization hasthe authority to give the permission to buildand which kind of authorization is requested.
AGRIMEC wants to specify that a greenhouse is a construction very different from a civil or industrial building. The most importantdifference is due to the short useful life of a greenhouse compared with the long life of a building used for people-life or manufacturingactivity: these buildings are characterized by high safety guarantee, high cost and long life.
A greenhouse – contrary – is a building designedfor short-term activities (from 5 up to 15 years);it must give less insurance relate security and resistance performace than civil and industrial constructions.
Usually the process to obtain a such authorizationis linked with the followings aspects:1) destination: flower or vegetable-growing (real
greenhouse) better than garaging (storagerooms more similar to industrial building);
2) measurements: in Europe some municipalityis inclined to authorized when the top heightof the greenhouse doesn’t exceed a quote,usually 4 m;
3) anchorage: disassembling is a quality almostalways pretended; concrete foundationssometimes are not admitted because they contradict a such requirement.AGRIMEC recommends to anchor the buildingto the ground with solutions able to assure the respect of the level of safety for whatthe greenhouse is designed.

The front frame is very important for the following reasons:- it must be enough strong so to transfer
to the main structure all the actions comingfrom outside, especially those one due to strong wind;
- it must be covered by long life materials since it's so easy to damage them beatingwith tools or tractors;
- it's the site where doors and entrances to the greenhouse are usually allocated; these doors can be made of various types:
Sliding door system- solution admitted for NM, HM and TN model- elegant solution- very ideal for pedestrian access and
for small transport motorvehicle access- recommended coverings:
• fiberglass rolls or sheets• polycarbonate sheets• PVC sheets• PET sheets

Overturnable system- solution admitted for NM and
TN model (H = 2,35 m only)- cheap solution- in short greenhouses (< 15-20 m)
this front can replace lateral windows thanks to the big airing obtained opening the total front surface;
- pedestrian access very comfortable thanks to the shutter door (1,45x2,3 m)incorporated in the frame;
- entrance for tractor admitted (<2,35 m) at same time;
- covering: only polyethylene film
Sliding tarpaulin- solution admitted for NM and HM model;- PVC tarpaulin supplied - on above site -
with trolleys that let sliding along suitable railand - at the bottom - with practical belts to pull the tarpaulin when it’s shut;
- ideal solution if it’s requested a so much wide access as the total greenhouse widthand an height more than 2,30 m at same time;
- in very high greenhouses it can become very hard to slide the tarpaulin.
Coverings are a very important choice becausethey represent the location where maintenancecosts are concentrated.For these reasons they must be:1. long life2. efficient3. resistant

European norm: EN 13206:2001
Film duration: it's determined following the procedure described in the European normEN13206, exposing plastic film in suitablemachines equipped with specific lamps (thoselamps irradiate a radiation similar to solar type).To determine film duration, the adopted criteriononly considers material degradation obtained in laboratory through the quick artificial ageing(Weather-o-meter or Wom).The duration of a covering material is proportionalto the period of exposure to the artificial ageingafter which mechanical properties are not considered as more sufficient.
