3.1 Mode reset (voyant touche RESET rouge)

3.2 Mode Manuel (voyant touche MAN rouge)• Le mode manuel permet à l’opérateur d’ouvrir/fer-
3.3 Mode Automatique (voyant touche AUT rouge)
3.5 Mode test on-load
3.4 Mode test off-load
4. Applications
10
4.1 Application Secteur-Groupe• Sur l’application secteur-groupe (U-G, configura-
4.2 Application Secteur-Secteur• Sur l’application secteur-secteur (U-U, utility-utili-

controls
• L-L voltage (or L-N voltage in case of monophaselines)
• Controls on minimum voltage, maximum voltage, phase loss, asymmetry, minimum frequency, max-imum frequency, with independent enabling anddelay
• Voltage thresholds with programmable hysteresis
1.4 Installation• Install the electronic control box according to the
wiring diagrams shown in the last pages of themanual
• Use the right wiring diagram for the application
• Set the parameters according to the requiredwiring diagram, paying special attention whenprogramming the inputs / outputs
1.5 Supply• 261 93 and 261 94 have a double power sup-
ply circuit, that means that they can operate withboth AC and DC supply or with only one of thetwo indifferently
• In presence of both power supplies, the energy istaken from the AC source
2. Description of the front panel
31
• The front panel of the electronic control box hastwo LED displays showing the voltages of the twopower sources with their correspondent keys – (A)for Main line and (B) for Secondary line – whichallows to select the measurements.
• The following keys: SET (E) - AUT (F) - MAN (G) -RESET (H) allow to select the operating mode, which is indicated by the corresponding LED.
• A mimic diagram is located at the center of thefront panel; it shows the status of the circuit break-ers for load connection.
• Two keys – (C) and (D) – can open and close thecircuit breakers (buttons are active only after press-ing the MAN key).

• When the key located under each display (A) and(B) is pressed several times, it will be possible to viewthe various measurements of the line sequentially.
• Line-to-line voltages, line-to-neutral voltages (in caseof single-phase lines) are available for each line.
• The combinations of the red LEDs indicate whichmeasurement is selected. The list of measurementsmay change depending on whether the electroniccontrol box is set up for the three-phase, two-phaseor single-phase control.
• After 1 minute without touching the key, the meas-urement returns to the default measurement, whichmay be the first voltage line-to-line or the first volt-age line-to-neutral, depending on how the voltagecontrol is set up.
• In case of alarms or messages, the display will beoccupied by the alarm code. By pressing the selection key, it is possible totemporarily hide the alarm and access the meas-urements.
2.2 Measurement selection
Example of a list of measurements on an electronic control box set up for a
three-phase control.
• The front panel has some LEDs which indicate the status of the circuit breakers controlled by the electroniccontrol box.

• The electronic control box does not execute oper-ations but it just displays the status of the voltagesand the circuit breakers.
• The opening and closing control outputs of theswitches remain all open, hence allowing for themanual control from the front side of the motor con-trols. If the emergency input is activated, the unitwill in any case order the opening of the switches.
• The generator control output will set up for switch-ing off the group.
• The status alarms of the circuit breakers aredisabled.
• When an alarm occurs, it must be reset by press-ing the RESET key. If you are already in this oper-ating mode, press the RESET button again.
3.1 Reset mode (red RESET key LED)
• In automatic mode, the device independently exe-cutes both opening and closing operations of thecircuit breakers as well as the startup and shut-down of the generator, if any.
• When the main line (MAIN) goes beyond the lim-its, after the set delay times, the device disconnectsthe load from the main line and connects it to thesecondary line (SEC), thus controlling both the
startup of the generator, if any, and thechangeover times between the circuit breakers.
• When the main line falls within the limits, the deviceswitches again the load on it and determines thecooling cycle, if required, of the generator.
• The automatic cycles of operation vary accordingto the type of application (utility-to-utility, utility-to-generator).
35
P l e a s enote: Theexecution ofthis testinvolves trans-ferring theload, hence apower failureduring thechangeoverdue to theinterlockingtimes.
3.2 Manual mode (red MAN key LED)• The manual mode allows the operator to electrical-
ly open/close the circuit breakers with the specialkeys located at the front side of the device.
• In this mode, the voltages are constantly monitoredbut the device just displays their status.
• When one of the control keys is pressed for atleast 300 ms, the electronic control box changesthe status of the circuit breakers from open toclosed and vice-versa.
• If a command is given to close a circuit breakerwhile the other is already closed, the unit will ini-tially open the other circuit breaker, wait for the
interlocking time and then it will close the requiredcircuit breaker.
• In manual mode, all the status alarms of the circuitbreakers (disconnected and tripped) are disabled. The anomalous condition is signaled on the LEDbut it will not be stored or dealt with as an alarm.
• It is possible to manually control the startup andshutdown of the generator by holding down thekey (G) MAN for 5 consecutive seconds. As longas the manual mode is kept, the status of the gen-erator will remain the one required.
3.3 Automatic mode (red AUT key LED)
• By starting from the automatic mode and by press-ing the (F) key for 5 seconds, it will be possible totest the generator for 5 minutes.
• The generator is manually started in order to checkits operation but since the electronic control box isin automatic mode, the voltage controls willremain active.
• By doing so, it is possible to verify the correctoperation of the generator, thus maintaining
the coverage of the load. Under normal condi-tions, the load remains connected to the mainline, hence the generator operates with noload (off-load generator).
• The execution of the off-load test is determined byTES written steadily on the display.
• To end the execution of the test in advance, pressthe (F) key again for 5 seconds or start the resetmode.
• By starting from the automatic mode and by press-ing the (F) and (D) key simultaneously for 5 con-secutive seconds, it will be possible to carry out anoperational test (on-load test) which will totally sim-ulate a lack of the power line voltage lasting oneminute.
• Hence, the unit behaves exactly as if the line hasfallen out of the limits, thereby using all pro-
grammed times and parameters for thechangeover so as to verify their adequacy.
• The execution of the on-load test is determined byTES flashing on the display.
• To end the execution of the test in advance, repeatthe procedure with keys (F) and (D) for 5 secondsor start the reset mode.

4. Applications
36
4.1 Utility-to-generator Application• In the Utility-to-generator application (U-G, default
setup) the load is normally connected to the mainline. If there is an anomaly on the line or in caseof a transfer signal set from the outside, a start sig-nal will be sent to the generator which supplies thesecondary line.
• When the voltage of the generator reaches theprogrammed limits, the electronic control box willorder the changeover on the secondary line.
• When the main line returns, the load is transferredagain and the generator is kept in operation withno load for a certain period of time so as to allowits cooling.
• The unit sends a start/stop command to the groupthrough a relay output and can receive digital sig-nals from the group indicating its status throughprogrammable inputs.
4.2 Utility-to-utility Application• In the utility-to-utility application (U-U), the load is
normally connected to the main line and thechangeover to the secondary line occurs if there is
an anomaly on the main line or in case there is atransfer signal set from the outside.
5. Circuit breakers control
37
• The circuit breakers control is carried out throughtwo separate relays, one for closing and one foropening.
• In reset mode, both control relays remain open, except for the emergency condition where theopening can be controlled.
• In case of an anomaly on the switch, hence caus-ing an alarm, the control outputs will both beopened till the resetting of the alarm.
• There are two separate modes for controlling thecircuit breakers. These can be selected by usingthe parameter P1.03

5.1 With feedback (default setup)• The status indicated by the two-color front LED is
the one detected by the auxiliary contacts.• The timeout alarms are enabled. They are gener-
ated if the circuit breakers do not reach therequired position within a programmable timeP1.04 or immediately if they change positionwhen no command has been sent.
• The control outputs are timed. When the circuitbreaker has executed the required operation, the
output still remains energized for a certain periodof time (+1 second during closing and +15 sec-onds during opening, in order to allow the springsof the motor operators to be completely charged)and then it is released.
• The normal status of the control outputs is open. • The interlocking times start when the first circuit
breaker is actually opened, detected by the input, and last for 0.5 steady seconds.

The auxiliarycontacts of the
circuit breakersare not wired in

6. Voltage controls
39
• Any condition required to determine whether asupply source is or is not suitable is determined bythe user through the P0 menu (system nominaldata) and the P2 and P3 menus (voltage control, main line and secondary line, respectively).
• It is possible to set up the system nominal data, such as nominal voltage and frequency, throughthe P0 menu, which will be used as a referencefor setting up the percentage thresholds of the fol-lowing menus.
• It is possible to set up a TV transformation ratio incase a lower voltage, relative to the actual voltageof the system, is applied to the voltage inputs ofthe unit. Here, again, the display and the setup ofthe thresholds will be executed in actual sizesreferred to the system.
• The electronic control box can be programmedto perform voltage controls on three-phase, two-phase or single-phase nets (via the P0.03parameter).
Control 261 93 261 94 Description
Minimum voltage • • One or more phases too low
Maximum voltage • One or more phases too high
Phase failure • • Threshold under which the device can operate faster compared to a normal reduction
Asymmetry (unbalance) • Phases included in the Maximum-Minimum interval, yet too different between each other
Minimum frequency • Frequency too low
Maximum frequency • Frequency too high
Sequence of phases • Reverse rotation of phases
The following describes the anomalies monitored by the voltage control.Columns 261 93 and 261 94 point out the presence of the function within their unit models.
40
• Each anomaly has an independent delay time. The anomaly must last consecutively longer thanthe time specified for invalidating the voltage pres-ence signal.
• All controls, except for the minimum voltage con-trol, can be excluded separately by setting therelated parameter to OFF.
• The minimum and maximum voltage limits arespecified by setting up two thresholds each, onewhich determines the point beyond which the volt-age is no longer considered acceptable (e.g.P2.01) and the other, closer to the nominal volt-age, which determines the point in which itbecomes compatible again (e.g. P2.02). The dis-
tance between these two thresholds determines thehysteresis. For instance, it may be considered thatwhen the nominal value is below 80%, the voltagemay no longer be useable and that in order to beconsidered useful, it must rise over 85%, therebydetermining a 5% hysteresis. The same concept applies to the maximumvoltage.
• As for the frequency thresholds, there is a fixed 1%hysteresis of the nominal frequency.
• The retrieval after a phase failure occurs when thevoltage rises above the minimum voltage retrievalthreshold.
Example of variation of the main line voltage within the minimum and maximum thresholds and relative hystereses, with indication of the
presence / absence delay times. Theexample considers the secondary linevoltage absent with its circuit breaker
open, hence the changeover times arenot shown. The INTERR. bar represents the required status

Sta (Start) - Indicates that the Start Generator command has been sent
Coo (Cooling) - Indicates that the generator is being left running for the cooling
Tes(Test) - When steady, it indicates that an off-load test - namely a power unit test with the voltage controls active - is currently in progress
Tes(Test) - When flashing, it indicates that an on-load test, namely an automatic net failure simulation, is currently in progress
Loc (Locked) - It indicates that the keyboard function one is trying to execute is locked
9. Alarms
49
• When the unit is running, it is possible to verify anumber of abnormal situations which are signaledin different ways.
• Some alarms (tripped, withdrawn) have a dedi-cated LED which begins to flash when thealarms go on.
• Other alarms are signaled through a code whichconsists of an A (alarm) and a number indicatingwhich alarm it is. This code will be flashing on oneof the displays. If the code refers to the main linebranch, the alarm will be displayed on the left.Conversely, if the code refers to the secondary linebranch or if it is a generic alarm (e.g. battery), itwill be displayed on the right.
• When an alarm goes on, the red LED “ALARM”flashes in sync with the dedicated LED or with thealarm code.
• The Global alarm relay output is de-energized dur-ing alarm conditions whereas it is energized undernormal conditions. If the unit does not operate dueto a failure or power supply problems, it will gen-erate an alarm condition on its contact.
• Some alarms are automatically reset when theconditions generating them fail to work.
• Other alarms, described in the chart in the RIT col-umn, are retentive, thus they are stored.
• Once the alarm has been stored, the abnormalconditions must be eliminated in order to be reset. Also, the operator must press the RESET key orsend a special message via the serial interface.
